First Impressions | Artists To Watch in 2006 (Part 1)
The holidays are long gone and since then we've decided to take on knitting (it's not as boring as it seems. seriously). We are being cautious in this unsually nice weather mother nature has dropped on us. It is a bit perculiar that it's 55 degrees in January. Twelve days into the new year and images of The Day After Tomorrow are playing in our minds. If we make it past this month, there might be something to look forward in 2006. In a four part series, Aeki Tuesday will take a look at emgerging noteworthy artists in 2006.
The Perishers [www.perishersmusic.com]
Members: Ola Klüft (vocalist/ guitarist), Thomas Hedlund (drums), Martin Gustafson (keyboards/backing vocals) , Pehr Åström (bass)
Sound: Basement Melancholy Pop
Mini Bio: Raised in Umeå, Sweden. These twenty-something quartet decided to start a band in 1997. Their purpose was to make the kind of music that they wanted to hear. From recording home demos and writing songs together, the heart-wrenching melodies started to flesh itself out. In 2001, they received an offer from a Swedish record company, MNW/Nons to record an album. As unexpected, as this offer was The Perishers grouped together and produced their first album, From Nothing to One. That album was released in Scandinavia and Japan only. Let There Be Morning, was release in 2003 topping radio and charts. They toured with Snow Patrol receiving rave reviews. Comparisons to Travis, Keane and Coldplay will no doubt follow them for a while. We would like to think The Perishers would stand on their own in no time.

The Like [www.ilikethelike.com]
Members: Z Berg (vocals/guitar), Charlote Froom (bass, vocals), Tennessee Thomas (drums)
Sound: Dreamy Pop.
Mini Bio: The Like started in 2001. The Los Angeles-based female trio became friends instantaniously. They jammed, made bundt cake and chose a killer name for a band while in high school no less. Over the next three years the band put out three EPs (I Like The Like, … And The Like and Like it or Not) independently through their site. They are friends with Rooney, Phantom Planetand Marron5, which now places them in the running to appear The OC. The Like have denied nepotism (Froom is daughter of producer Mitchell Froom, Thomas’ dad drummer for Elvis Costello & the Imposters and Berg is daughter of A&R hotshot Tony Berg) is the cause of getting signed with Geffen Records in 2004. Z Berg insists that music is in their chormosomes. On Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking, the trio worked with Wendy Melvoin (Member of Prince and the Revolution & Wendy & Lisa). Most of the songs were came from their previous EPs but they added a few new more.

The Changes [www.the-changes.com]
Members: Darren Spitzer (vocals/guitar/keys), Rob Kallick (bass guitar), Dave Rothblatt (lead guitar/vocals and Jonny Basofin (drummer).
Sound: Jazzy New Wave Pop
Mini Bio: Formed in March 2002, this Chicago band has two EPs under their belt, First of May (2003) and The Changes EP (2005). Their sound is slightly reminiscent of The Police. 'When I Wake,' their explosive single, is a jaunty toe-tapping tune. Being the lone band to play Lollapalooza in 2005 to astonished crowds was well astonishing. Yet they are still unsigned. The future fare well for these lads. A full length LP and a record deal is only a matter of time.
