The Mercury Prize shortlist was announced yesterday. The Nationwide Mercury Prize provides a snapshot of the year in UK music. The 2005 shortlist will be chosen from an entry of around 170 albums released by British and Irish artists. Last year Franz Ferdinand walked away with best album of the year by a British or Irish act. On September 6, Nationwide Mercury Prize Award winners will be announced. Visit www.nationwidemercurys.com
