A Week's Worth Of Show Reviews: More Hype
We have about a week's worth of shows to review. Last Monday we caught up with Four Tet at Other Music. As we stated last week, we weren't too familiar with his previous work. We arrived at Other Music just a little after 7:30 and there was a massive line. The line was actually a little longer than when we caught Brendan Benson's performance a few weeks ago. Four Tet performed a great set, which included the song "Smile Around The Face."
Last Wednesday, we caught Favorite Sons, Little Barrie and Youth Group. It was a first night in a long while where all the bands listed were phenomenal. Favorite Sons will be playing on June 30 at Rothko.

On Saturday night, Mercury Lounge had a great turnout for the Dirty On Purpose Record Release Party. We were excited to see those bands play but sadly missed Chloroform's set. We just want to say that The End of The World is freaking amazing! The EP is fantastic. You should get yourself a copy now. Bishop Allen was loud. It could be that we positioned ourselves next to speakers and was temporarily deaf for a few hours. Besides being loud, they also rocked. Did you know the two members were in this movie called Funny Ha Ha? We caught the screening of that movie when it came out a few weeks back. Justin Rice's character in Funny Ha Ha was the one that really stood out though his role was small. After Bishop Allen's set, Dirty on Purpose took the stage. By then a serious migraine from being too close to said speakers forced us to bow out early. We hear the afterparty was bananas.

Finally, last night was Gothamist's Movable Hype 3.0. Jen rounded up a great list of bands. Man in Gray, which we've know for years, played first. This band keeps getting better. Having first seen them about 3 years ago, it's fantastic to see how far they've gotten. They will be playing at Mercury Lounge in July. Stay tuned for details.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah were such a surprise. We love CYHSY! Do yourself a favor and buy their new cd or better yet catch one of their shows. David Bowie made a small appearance. He saw CYHSY's set and left.

What can we say about Ghostland Observatory. These Texas boys had New Yorkers dancing. Heck Aeki Tuesday contemplated dancing for a bit but we didn't. We just snapped a few pictures instead. The lead singer is charismatic and wears very tight (distracting) pants. We didn't see The Fame's set because we were backstage. We totally forgot that Alana, formerly of Blue Sparks, had joined The Fame.

Aeki Tuesday's cynical self seemed to be very pleased with the above bands. It was only two days ago when we were asked us what shows made us say "Hell Yeah!" this year and couldn't think of any.
We point this question in your direction. What shows made you say Hell Yeah and what shows didn't?
