Starbucks Isn't Just About Coffee
Starbucks announced this morning that it would exclusively sell Bob Dylan: Live at the Gaslight 1962 whereas traditional music retailers will have to wait 18 months in order to start selling the CD. The album was recorded at New York's Gaslight Cafe in October 1962, featuring songs such as 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall' and "Don't Think Twice It's Alright.' Starbucks will carry "Gaslight" exclusively for 18 months and is the longest agreement to date. The CD will cost $13.95 at Starbucks' 4,600 U.S. stores. [CNN Money]
Starbucks jumped aggressively on the music scene last year by selling roughly 775,000 copies of Genius Loves Company by Ray Charles. A few weeks ago, Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill Acoustic CD started selling exclusively at the coffee chain generating 56,000 of sales. Miss Morissette insists that it was not her intention to ruffle feathers. HMV Canada thinks otherwise. [Coolfer.com]
Sony BMG Music Entertainment does not want to ruffle feathers and will be taking steps in a promotinal campaing that will include special racks that will hold the album No Direction, a DVD of the documentary and the paperback version of Dylan's recent autobiography.
