Beastie Boys' New CD Infecting Computers With Virus
According to a thread BugTraq, an executable file is automatically and silently installed on the user's machine when the CD is loaded. The file is said to be a driver that prevents users from ripping the CD and attacks both Windows and Macs. (link)
One fan who bought the CD posted this message on Security Focus:
It seems that Capitol Records has some sort of new copy protection system, that automatically, silently, installs "helpful" copy protection software on MacOS and Windows as soon as you insert the CD into default systems. I'm not sure exactly what it does yet, but I am sure regreting actually purchasing said media now... they don't deserve my money if they choose to pull stupid stunts like this. Installing software without your permission sounds like viral malware behaviour to me. I certainly hope the AV companies put signatures into their products for this crap.Read more about this from the message board of the Beastie Boys' site.
Last night, we went to Rothko for the first time to catch Sluts of Thrusts. The first band Some Action were quite good. Their songs were a mix of punk rock and we can't quite put our finger of some of the guitar riffs that were used in three songs (we want to say Television & The Hives). The Capital and Sluts of Trusts were next on the bill and that's all we're saying about that experience.
