Bands We Like: The Radio Dept.
June is almost coming to an end and we failed to post this month's pick for Aeki Tuesday's Bands We Like. Let us introduce you to The Radio Dept.

The Radio Dept. are a four-piece band from Malmo, Sweden. Their name came from a petrol station/radio repair shop in Lund from a sign that reads 'Radioavdelningen' (The Radio Department in Swedish. Members include Martin Larsson and Johan Duncanson, Lisa Carlberg and Per Blomgren (though the XL site states Kim Sjolander and Daniel Tjader as members instead of Lisa and Per). Formed by Elin Almered and Johan Duncanson in 1995 as The Radio Department and had gone through revolving members. At some point in 1998, Martin Larsson and Johan Duncanson started playing gigs and decided to use their current name instead. Lisa Carlberg and Per Blomgren were recently added to fill out the rhythm section.
The Radio Dept.'s Lesser Matters album is remenicent of the c86-era (a term used to describe Britain's mid-Eighties indie-pop climate), Primal Scream and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Their sound is fuzzy, atmospheric and filled with white-noise. They fall in the indie-pop/twee and early 90s shoegazzer category. They are heralded as one of the finest pop groups in Sweden. It's about time you tune in to The Radio Dept.
1995 seems like a long way to go
If you ever were to find your way back home
But the only thing I really miss is being the first one that you see
When morning opens up the skies
You see me when daylight opens up your eyes - 1995 from Lesser Matters
