sounds of siren
Saturday morning found me hopping the NJ Transit to New York. The 10:59 am crowd heading to NY was massive and I prepared myself for a long day of train travel. Since I hadn't eaten yet, I stopped in Park Slope looking for a good eatery. Afterwards, I headed to the 9th Street stop to catch the W train to Coney Island and of course as luck would have it I missed the train because I couldn't find my metrocard. Finally another W train comes 25 minutes later. I hadn't realized that taking the W would have so many damn stops. There must have been at least 40. Seriously!
Around 2:15 pm, I saw the Cyclone from the train window and I knew I've arrived. I haven't been in Coney Island in ages. I should venture there more often. I started walking around, I found myself in front of a stage and realized it was the Stillwell Stage. The Kills were already playing at the Main Stage so I stayed for Oneida. The Dirtbombs played next. They had a nice set but did not play "I'm Qualified to Satisfy You" as requested by the audience over and over again. I spotted Oakley from The Witnesses walking around and wondered why he was wearing a vest and long sleeves in the hot heat.
After walking around the boardwalk, I headed to the main stage to check out Sahara Hotnights set. I made my way towards the middle and took a few pictures of their performance. Around 5 O’clock after standing in the sun waiting for Hot Hot Heat to go on , I started getting dizzy. Next thing I knew I was on the floor because I passed out. This fellow in front of me was nice enough to give me some water. People around me were concerned and I sat in the middle of the floor until I was able to stand up. After Hot Hot Heat's second song, I got up and tried to enjoy the show. Later I walked on the beach to relax and wished I had brought my bathing suit with me. The water looked so inviting. I pass by these group of kids building a trench, couples making out, boys trying to hook up with girls, people sitting on the rocks, and men wearing speedos (there should be a law against this).
I was able to check out Raido 4 and settled for Modest Mouse instead of Idlewild. At the Modest Mouse Show someone described it as seeing The Who at Anchorage or maybe it was The Guess Who. There were too many people there and I felt claustrophobic. My feet were killing me so I left before 9 dreading the long ride back to Penn Station.
Siren = Fun
I'll have pictures to post later this week.
Who was able catch the Cat Power show last Thursday at Castle Clinton? I heard that it was such a great show. She did a cover of Otis Redding's "These Arms of Mine" and then shifted to a Peaches song.
