28 August 2003

the stakes are high

So this morning I turn on my radio and caught Coldplay's 'Clocks'. I hadn't know that 'Clocks' was getting airplay. I started thinking that I need to find their cd and listen to it again but then I hear the announcer say something about WPLJ and I am stunned. Coldplay has entered Top 40 Adult Alternative category. Oh, the horror!! As I bit my bottom lip holding back the tears, I remember the very first time I heard of Coldplay. I was watching MTV late one night years ago and caught the video for 'Yellow'. I was hooked. Now Chris Martin is dating, the break-up princess (the title for queen goes to Julia Roberts...of course), Gwyneth Paltrow. He's turned into Sean Penn and Tom Cruise within months. While Coldplay say goodbye to reinvent the wheel, I am left to ponder again and again at what went wrong.

For those who might have missed the countless commercial & radio ads, seen Chris Rock singing (annoyingly) along Pharrell Williams's Frontin', or seen the barrage of let's-look-back-at-all-the-VMAs-all-the-time shows on MTV, the VMAs are on tonite! If you are going then good for you. If you're not going but are on several VIP After Party list then good for you. If you are like me and will be home watching the show then good for you (and me).

Santi White told me that Stiffed might be playing at Pianos next Thursday after they come back from their shows in London. So of course I'm there. You should come too and if you see me you should buy me drinks cause It'll be my birthday.

From The Stills Mailing List:

The Stills have finally finished recording the upcoming full length (Logic Will Break Your Heart).

Just back from a tour of the UK and before beginning the North American tour, we'll be playing an early show in NYC next Wednesday Sept 3rd, 9pm at Sin-e.

The club is small and tickets are somewhat limited so please go to www.ticketweb.com for advance tix.

Thanks and see you soon,
