25 August 2003

here's to the night

Friday night was spectacular for many reasons. I left work early to run errands and catch an early train to NY. Although I succeed in finishing my errands, I was not able to catch an early train. I arrived in Manhattan a little after 6:30 and high-tailed myself to the W train. As my luck goes, I missed a train going to Coney Island by seconds. Waiting 10 plus minutes underground with the heat and smell was enough to drive me mad. Finally the W pulls up and I prepared myself for a loooong ride. I got to Coney Island and was met by a few people trying to sell tickets. Some were even offering free General Admission tickets. I hadn't eaten yet so I got myself a hot dog and water before going in. I found my seat. I looked up and saw a big sound tent blocking my view from the stage. Not cool. After Sigur Ros's set there was silence for a bit and then BAM...the fireworks starts. The fireworks went on for a while before Bjork graced the stage. There was a cloud of applause and she started singing. Fans were treated to more fireworks, light show, and some pyrotechnics. I can't find more words to describe the night. It was simply amazing.

Saturday night, I headed to Williamsburg for a gathering hosted by Janine. When I arrived there were only five people actually gathering but it was only 10:30 pm. About one hour later, more people were emerging from the streets, groups of people ventured on Janine's rooftop and I accidentally dropped a six-pack of Coronas while going down to the loft. An innocent bystander, either walking in or out of his apartment, received a beer and glass shower. I felt horrible but I was surprised that the fellow didn't come up and try to pummel me. I cleaned up the area as best I could. I went back to the loft and explained the situation. Bumped into Bryan and Jen chatted for a bit. Someone heaved a bottle of beer in my direction and said "no worries...just have fun." Boy did I ever. I did a little too much partying and decided to lie down for a while but that lasted for about 2 hours. I woke up all refreshed and went searching for Candice to see if she was enjoying herself and to apologize for my disappearance act. I did find her, she was in good company and she had a good time. Yay! After talking and laughing and playing some Monkey Ball on a Nintendo Game Cube, the gathering came to an end around 6am. I hung around to help clean up the mess which wasn't as bad as we thought. All in all a good time but I will limit the amount of artificial fun I intake.
