Dirty Basements / A Funny Branagh / Ryan Adams and Weird Jacko
Last weekend Fabs and I went to see Uncle Jimmy's Dirty Basement at the Bowery Poetry Club. I was a little skeptic when Fabs described the show as being a mixture of a puppetry, rock and punk. We got there about 15 minutes late but the show was hilarious. They will be playing for about 3 more weeks on Saturdays at 8.
After the show it was too cold to hang out in the city, we decided to head home. On the way to Penn Station we decided to see what movie is playing at the Loews on 34th St. Harry Potter: The Chamber of Secrets was playing at 10:45 and we got there at 10:45. I recently saw part one on DVD a friend lent me and it was loooong but enjoyable. The second part is still long (the movie ended at 1:33 am) but was much more funnier. I was surprised to see Kenneth Branagh staring in the movie. He was by far the funniest! All and all it was very enjoyable and I truly recommend it. In a few weeks, I will yet again sit in a movie for about 2 1/2 hours to see Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
The National Board of Reviews named it's best film of the year. I loved the novel by Michael Cunningham. I was elated to find out that The Hours was being made into a film but with such stars as Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore and Nicole Kidman and Ed Harris how can it not be good.
Saint Etienne on Village Voice / Liam Gallagher and his lost teeth on NME / Ryan Adams vs Jack White / Corgan's new band is called Zwan (Really!) / NYC's Power Siblings (via The Modern News) / Snipes Doing 'John Doe' / Weird Jacko /
It's that time of year for numerous Best of 2002 lists to come out. I guess I should get started on my Best Top Ten Album and Best Top Ten Film list soon...
