Why Remix / Kelis Causes Trouble / Weezer says no to Rubin and The Handsome Boys are back

The muched talked about remix of "Why" with Nas and Common has hit the streets. More questions are asked. Here's a bit of their verses:

Common: Why do they say I would change for a girl / Why you worry about my clothes; if my flows gon' change the world / Why you wait till you thirty to try to be hard / Why do I gotta have religion if I believed in God...Why Justin had to sell Janet out and go to the Grammys / Why you kill in every song...Why they hype Britney up / they know she can't sing

Nas: Why do half of America got AIDS / Why do schools care more about your son's braids / then they do for his grades/ Why they hate on white t-shirts and hats turned backwards / Why is Jesus Christ never played by black actors...Why this record didn't sell 5 mil yet / Jada is real as it get / Put my money where my mouth is

Jada: Why my cases ain't get thrown out / Why team USA keep getting blown out

Kelis, who is engaged to Nas, has teamed up with Bjork and recorded a different version of Bjork’s new song Oceania - although there are no plans to release it. You can check out the new video for Bjork's Oceania here. Her new album, Medulla, hits stores August 31st.

Fans of Kelis caused a bit of a scene at the England’s annual V Festival in Chelmsford last Saturday. She was forced to exit the stage after nearly 5,000 fans tried to enter the full-to-capacity tent she was playing in.

Moving along to more insatiable music news, Weezer drops Rick Rubin produced tracks and are starting over from scratch. The official Weezer site released this: "The sessions with Rick started back in 12/03 have been shelved in favor of the fresh start that commenced 3 weeks ago in the current sessions. This was done mainly in response to Rivers regaining his sense of momentum with his songwriting, and not feeling right about continuing with the incomplete recordings from December. In effect, the band is now producing itself, as it did on Pinkerton and Maladroit, but this time they have a wise shoulder to lean on if and when need be. So far its working out pretty excellently."

Those crazy touring kids from the Decemberists are back on tour. We saw them in June but they're at it again. They will open for the Pixies on 9/4 (Aeki Tuesday's Birthday!!) in Oregon and will be performing at the Kill Rock Stars Yeah! Fest! in Olympia, WA on 9/11.

09.27.04 - New York, NY - Webster Hall
10.13.04 - New York, NY - Bowery Ballroom
10.16.04 - Hoboken, NJ - Maxwell's
10.23.04 - New York, NY - Mercury Lounge

More tour dates are listed here

According to HipHopDX.com, Mos Def will release a new album "The New Danger" on October 12th. Originally, The New Danger was slated for a September 28th release but was pushed back. This new album is the follow-up to 1999's acclaimed "Black on Both Sides," which debuted at No. 3 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and has sold 703,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The new album will be supported by a fall tour. The other tour acts have not been confirmed. In addition to his new album he is also working on a new film titled The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Speaking of long awaited releases, we recently found out that Handsome Boy Modeling School (a.k.a. Dan the Automator and Prince Paul) will release their second album this fall. "White People" due on November 9th (Atlantic) will be feature an elephantine list of contributors including Mike Patton, the Deftones' Chino Moreno, Cat Power, RZA, Tim Meadows of "Saturday Night Live" and John Oates from Hall & Oates fame, among others. The first single, "The World's Gone Mad," features Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand and Del Tha Funky Homosapien.
