chemistry of a current state
I took a little vacation from blogging here but I'm back. What have I been doing with my time you ask?
I have become a little obsessed with Friendster and Fotolog for the moment. I've started my very own fotolog full of random images. Thanks goes out to Jen and Bryan for introducing me to both sites.
Hey, have you picked up, Electric Version, the New Pornographers's album yet?? Because you should. I was fortunate to have a special listening session some time ago (ssh! I won't reveal the source). The album is very good. So you need to get it.
But wait. While you are out there picking up Electric Version you should then head over to the 'D' section of the store and pick yourself a copy of No Cities Left by another Canadian band called The Dears. Their debut LP End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story was an emotionally charged production filled with great orchestration, melodicism, and theatrical outburts. Murray A. Lightburn delivers vocals in a dramatic way and his lyrics to this new release are about rebuilding. The arrangments in this LP is fantastic. I haven't heard a lot of bands that could go from rock to light jazz in one song and it still contain such an element of drama. They are a band where it's hard to put them in nice little catagories such as electro-clash but orchestral pop noir (named after an early Dears EP release) seems fitting. The Dears's record label, Maple Music, has a nice section about them. I hear their live performances are not to be missed but it's a shame that their current No Cities Left Tour doesn't include New York as one of their stops.
So will I leave you all with this vision of warm and sunny days...
