03 November 2002

[lazy sunday morning]

I woke up unusually early today at 7:32 am today. This daylight saving thing is irritating the heck out of me. When I wake up in the morning I cherish the darkness but now the sun is piercing my eyes at every corner. I am at a lost right now. I have absolutely nothing planned for today. I think I will surf a little bit more and go through the heap of mail that is in my inbox. I should also unsubscribe to the numerous groups that I am on at Yahoo Groups.

Okay, so Hugh couldn't make it last Thursday for Halloween. Bummer. I did get to see parts of the parade behind a guy who was 6' 9". Took some pictures (I hope they came out fine since I was standing behind that tall man most of the night). On Friday night, I was invited to see a fashion show in Orange, NJ. I never knew that was possible. I mean Orange, New Jersey!! Anyway after getting my communications crossed about the address, I finally rush out my door to the train station. Of course my taxi to the train station was very late which caused me to miss the 7:22 train. I figured that the best thing to do was to catch the train to Newark and then catch the next train to Orange, NJ. But that didn't work. I went to the information desk at Newark Penn Station only to find out that I need to be at the Newark Broad St. Station. Damn. It's about 8 and I have to be at the Fashion show at 9. So I wait for the darn shuttle to come and take me to the Broad St. Station but It is running late. Damn.

At 8:20 I decided the best thing to do was to take a cab to Orange. The cab driver was very willing to take me there for 15 bucks. Damn! The driver had some Haitian programming on the radio. They were talking about the recent events that took place in the Haitian community. One commentator was outraged that this was going on. She wanted the whole community to go to Florida and support this issue. Her impassioned words affected me to the point of booking a flight on Orbitz.com to Miami. But being broke, I would not have been much help. Anyway, I arrived at the show and waited for Kim. I finally called her to find out she was on her way. She finally arrived along with her friend Tanya. We make our way through the show. Kim was supposed to model for the event. I should point out that the event was a dreadlock fashion show. About 10 minutes inside with drinks in hand, Kim comes to our table and tells us that the tickets she had will not be honored. We would have to either pay the $25 entry fee or leave. We chose to leave. So it's 9:30 on a Friday night and we have nothing to do. After discussing our plight with Monique, Kim's other friend, it was decided that we should head to the city and go to Nannies. I have never been there and both Kim and Tanya agreed that everyone should experience Nannies just once in their lifetime. After Nannies, I made a promise never to set foot there again. It was not my kind of flavor. Tanya dropped me at New York Penn Station and I had to wait for the next train at 1:47 am. There I was able to write three poems about my bruised heart. I guess I asked for it. Never give too much of yourself to someone and expect something to be returned. I always was a little guarded about these things but this time it tapped me on the shoulder and worked its mojo on me. Damn!!
